High court bombed in Rivers State

A High Court in Ahoada East LGA of Rivers State was bombed this morning Monday January 6th, according to reports from the state.

The Will Nigeria reports
The bombing of the court where Justice Charles N. Wali usually holds court, reportedly occurred on Monday morning a few hours before a politically charged suit against Hon Evans Bipi, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly and leader of a group of 6 lawmakers, who has been unlawfully parading himself as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Justice Wali had about a month ago ordered Bipi to stop parading himself as Speaker of the House as the tussle over control of the state government between loyalists of the Presidency and the Rivers Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, lingers with an end in sight. No casualties have been reported over the bombing as at the time of filing this report.

Nigerians named amongst 8 superior groups of people in the US

Writer Amy Chau, who gained notoriety 2 years ago as 'Tiger Mum' after publishing her controversial book 'Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother" where she claimed that Chinese mums make the best parents and ultimately have more successful children, is back in the news.

Chau and her husband, Jed Rubenfeld, ight peoples have that guarantees them success over others; superiority, insecurity and impulse control. Continue...

just released a controversial (and some say racist) parenting guide called 'The Triple Package', where they declared there to be only eight successful and superior groups of people in the US.

They eight are: Chinese, Jewish, Indian, Iranian, Lebanese-Americans, Nigerians, Cuban exiles and Mormons
'That certain groups do much better in America than others, as measured by income, occupational status, test scores and so on, is difficult to talk about,' Amy and Jed write.
The couple identify three distinguishing features these e

Amy Chau, 51, breaks down the 'Triple Package' for her readers as follows:

1) A superiority complex: Chau believes that any cultural group who innately thinks they are just better than others has an advantage.
Ignoring the wars, genocide and abject human misery this kind of thinking has caused, Chau and her husband declare that 'the superiority complex is antithetical to mainstream liberal thinking...the stuff of racism , colonialism, imperialism, Nazism.'

2) Insecurity: Chau and her husband believe that a deep seated insecurity can be a motivating drive to achieving success.
'That insecurity should be a critical lever of success is another anathema, flouting the entire orthodoxy of contemporary popular and therapeutic psychology,' they write according to the New York Post.
'Note that there’s a deep tension between insecurity and a superiority complex,' the authors continue.
'It’s odd to think of people being simultaneously insecure but also convinced of their divine election or superiority.'

3) Impulse Control: Chau thinks that perseverance and patience are virtues that have been lost to most Americans - but still exist among her eight golden cultural groups.
'Impulse control refers to the ability to resist temptation, especially the temptation to give up in the face of hardship or quit instead of persevering at a difficult task.'

Reckitt Benckiser Boosts Soap Market with Dettol Re-energize

Reckitt Benckiser, the producer of Dettol Soap and market leader in the health, hygiene and home care products segment has reinforced its market share with the launch of a new soap brand, Dettol Re-energize into the Nigerian market.

The Managing Director, Reckitt Benckiser Nigeria Limited, Mr. Rahul Murgai, speaking at the trade launch of the new soap in Lagos, said the variant was unique for its reviving citrus fragrance and the trusted Dettol germ protection that offer consumers long lasting freshness and protection. Continue..

He described the addition to its soap category as another ‘‘great innovation’’ from the company while pointing out that the latest variant also underscored the acceptability of the brand Dettol as a household name in the health and hygiene segment.
He said, ‘‘Dettol is a love brand in Nigeria, it is associated with the larger than life purpose of creating awareness around good health and hygiene practices and Dettol has been doing that effectively over the years.’’
Murgai added that in line with the vision of the company to maintain its market leadership as the producer of a range of global brands, Reckitt Benckiser has continued to innovate, noting that being innovative has helped it to build the Dettol franchise across markets including Nigeria.
‘‘We started our journey in 2009 when we launched the campaign ‘Good Health in Our Hands’ and thereafter there have been series of programmes. We have gone to schools where we have reached nearly three million students and have taught them good hand washing practices; we have reached new mothers and we have engaged with them to spread the message of health and hygiene”, he said.
The Marketing Director for West Africa, Reckitt Benckiser, Mr. Silivrili Oghuzan, corroborated that innovation was one of the pillars that accounted for the success of the Dettol brand in its last 50 years of existence in Nigeria.
He said, “Dettol has been around for 50 years; it has been passed on from generations to generations to provide a healthy and hygienic environment, the brand has been so successful that the name of the brand has become the generic name for health and hygiene. One of the most important factors that made the brand successful is it brings innovative solutions”.
Unveiling the new soap, Chairman, Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Francis Faduyile, announced the endorsement of Dettol Re-energize for its freshness, long-lasting pleasant fragrance and the trusted Dettol germ protection property.
He said Dettol was a heritage brand which the association was proud to associate with. “Dettol is a great brand that is endorsed by the Nigeria Medical Association. It is only Dettol that has such endorsement and the NMA will continue to associate with Dettol”, he stated.
The company’s Marketing Manager (Personal Care), Mr. Ahmed Shah, disclosed that the Dettol brand has recorded tremendous growth since its introduction to the Nigerian market 50 years ago. He said, “In the last five years, the brand has achieved 216 per cent growth in its market share and is now present in 63 million households in Nigeria, which means one out of every three households in Nigeria uses Dettol”.
On the philosophy behind the new variant, he explained that Dettol Re-energize was a product of innovation and intensive research into consumers’ want and preference, saying “Our research has shown that consumers want a soap that has pleasant fragrance and ability to refresh them. This is why we have introduced a Dettol Soap variant with a pleasant long lasting orange fragrance that refreshes and also gives them protection against germs.”
He further revealed that Dettol was able to triple its market share because it has adopted the right market strategy of building consumers’ trust and confidence in the brand.  “Dettol has the biggest consumer direct contact programme in Nigeria because we know it is important to build consumer trust in the Dettol brand. We have reached out to 5.8 million mothers in 44 cities in Nigeria, that is, close to six million mothers in five years, sample them and thought them good hygiene practices and educate them on what good hygiene does for them, their babies and their families”, he noted.
Shah added that “Apart from reaching mothers, we have also reached 3.5 million school children in three years by visiting 7,000 schools. We teach them how to wash their hands and other good hygiene practices like washing their hands properly after using the toilet. This is important because research has shown that people that engage in good hygiene practices are 70 per cent less likely to fall sick.”

Most Expensive Cars In The World: Top 7 List 2013-2014

The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8.7 million in 1987. That and many others won’t be included in this list, they are no longer available in the market.
If you can afford it, you would probably invest a small fraction of that on a bevy of supercars for your garage. Here are 10 of the most expensive street legal production cars on the market (at least 2 available); concept cars are not included.
World's Most Expensive Cars:
1. Lamborghini Veneno $3,900,000. The Veneno gets you from 0 to 60 mph in a swift 2.8 seconds allowing you to hit a top speed of 221 mph. Only three cars are being made available every year. If you want to own this hyper-supercar, you will have to be placed on
a waiting list along with other aficionados.

2. Bugatti Veyron Super Sports $2,400,000. This is by far the most expensive street legal production car available on the market today (the base Veyron costs $1,700,000). Capable of reaching 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, the Veyron is the fastest street legal car when tested again on July 10, 2010 with the 2010 Super Sport Version reaching a top speed of 267 mph (430 km/h). When competing against a Bugatti Veyron, you better be prepared!

3. Aston Martin One-77 $1,850,000. The name "One-77" says it all: beauty and power in One, limited to 77 units. With 750 hp, it is able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds with a maximum speed of 220 mph (354 km/h).

4 .Koenigsegg Agera R $1,600,000. The Agera R goes from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 260 mph (418 km/h). It is capable of reaching 270 mph, but this supercar is electronically limited to 235 mph (378 km/h). You will need to sign a waiver, only then does the company unlock the speed limiter.

5. Maybach Landaulet $1,380,000. The Landaulet is the most expensive sedan on the market and it can go from 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds. It is one the most luxurious cars ever made, this comes with a convertible roof that fully opens at the rear. This Maybach is made especially for CEOs and Executives who have their own personal driver.
6. Zenvo ST1 $1,225,000. Able to reach 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 233 mph (375 km/h). The Zenvo ST1 is from a new Danish supercar company that will compete to be the best in speed and style. The ST1 is limited to 15 units and the company even promised "flying doctors" to keep your car running.
7. Hennessey Venom GT Spyder $1,100,000. What makes the 2013 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder is its price tag, a compelling 1.1 million dollars. There is no other convertible in the world today that can match-up with this car. Not to mention that it goes from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds.

ONE OF THE WOLRD'S MOST EXPENSIVE CAR

We should have expected something this mad for Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary, but somehow we were still surprised. The Veneno is simply jaw-dropping.
It may not be the most beautiful supercar, but it is still one of the coolest. I still have to remind myself that I am actually looking at photos of it rather than a concept drawing or a computer generation.
But the Veneno isn’t all looks and no go. The name is Spanish for “poison” and boy is that appropriate. The naturally aspirated V12 – because turbos are for sissies – hammers out 750 horsepower. This Italian thunderclap will bring to 60 in 2.8 seconds, probably faster than sound can leave your body during a terrified scream.
The big wing on the back is encouraging. Either it will help keep the car on the road or it means that the Veneno is in accordance with FAA regulations, which is good until you realize that means it was designed to fly. Gulp.
It gets better too, because Lambo has recently gone ahead with a convertible version. The “poison” Spyder is just as fast, and even more mental. With speeds approaching 220 mph in an open top car, lets just say you are going to need goggles.
Even the batmobile looks tame in comparison to the Veneno and it probably costs less too.
Want one? That’s a silly question. Of course you do. Unfortunately, the three hard tops are already spoken for, but there will be nine roadsters. They may cost an extra half million dollars, but for something like this thats almost a bargai.

ASUU STRIKE Latest: Union Exco meets in Niger on Monday; sets to end strike

The stage is set for the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the over five month old strike as the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the union holds a crucial in Minna tomorrow (Monday) to rectify the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the federal government.
The meeting which is being hosted by Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna branch of the union was in fulfillment of the one week promised by ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge last Wednesday after the signing of the MoU with the federal government that members will meet to decide to call off the strike.
Like the last ASUU NEC meeting in Kano that was shrouded in high secrecy, the venue of today’s meeting is kept to only members of NEC, as the meeting may not be holding in either Bosso or Gida Kwano campuses of the University.
The agenda of the NEC meeting was also not made public, but a source within the union said that the meeting will among other things consider the MoU, the leadership will present documents to show government’s commitment, assess the impact of the industrial action and map out strategies on how to monitor and ensure implementation of the documented agreement.
A NEC member who spoke with our correspondent in confidence said, “we are here essentially to look into the MoU as ASUU President promised last Wednesday that members will review the development and decide to call off the strike. The meeting will also fashion out strategies for monitoring the implementation of the MoU”.
Asked if the meeting will be calling off the strike, our source said, “I may not be able to answer that but my thinking which is personal is that, if our leaders could sign the MoU with government last week, I think we are close to a truce”.
ASUU President had on Wednesday also gave hint of possible cessation of the action. According to Fagge after signing the MoU, “Within one week our members will meet and decide to call off the strike. We have a document here which shows that government is committed and all the things we demanded are in the letter.
“We will now take this document to our members and we are confident that our members will do the appropriate thing”.
Efforts to reach ASUU President and the FUT Minna branch chairperson, Dr. Abdulfatai Jimoh failed. None of them could be reached for comment, but as at the time of filling the report yesterday about 30 members of the NEC were already in Minna for the meeting.
Federal government on Wednesday shifted from its hardline to sign an MoU at a meeting brokered by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to implement decision reached with President Goodluck Jonathan during the historic 15 hour meeting with the union leaders.
Lecturers in all publicly owned universities embarked on an indefinite strike on the 2nd of July, following the refusal of federal government to fulfill the 2009 agreement it had with the union and non-implementation of 2012 Mou.
The action that was climaxed when federal government gave a December 4 ultimatum for the striking teachers to return to classrooms or face mass sack.
